Entering the Sacred State of Ihram & The Miqat

Purification, White Sheets, Niyyah & The Sacred Talbiyah

Spiritual Summary & Overview

Ihram is the sacred spiritual state of consecration. Men wear two seamless white unstitched cloths (Izar & Rida), while women wear modest loose Islamic attire.

⏱ Duration: 30 - 60 minutes before crossing Miqat📍 Location: Miqat Boundary (In-Flight or Land Station e.g., Dhu al-Hulayfah)

Step-by-Step Instructions & Sunnah Method

1

Perform personal hygiene: clip nails, trim unwanted hair, and take a purifying shower (Ghusl al-Ihram).

2

Men may apply perfume (Attar) to their body ONLY before making the intention; no perfume may touch the Ihram garments.

3

Men wear the two white sheets: Izar (wrapped around the waist) and Rida (draped over shoulders). No underwear, socks, or head coverings.

4

Women wear modest, loose-fitting clothing of any color covering the entire body except the face and hands (no Niqab or gloves in Ihram).

5

At or just prior to crossing the Miqat, state the Niyyah verbally: "Labbayk Allahumma Umratan".

6

Begin reciting the Talbiyah frequently with raised voices (men) or softly (women).
